Extreme solar activity events in August 1972.
Vaisberg O.,

Four strong interplanetary shocks followed the series of 4 solar flares in August 1972. According to observations on high-apogee satellites Prognoz and Prognoz-2 the maximum solar plasma flow parameters reached: velocity ~ 1700 km/s, ion ~ 107 oK, number density ~ 100 cm-3. Interplanetary shocks were also observed on Pioneer 10 at large heliocentric distances that allowed one to trace the propagation of these shocks. Review of data obtained during unusual solar activity in August 1972 is given.
