Unusual high geomagnetic activity in 2003.

Geomagnetic activity in 2003 turned out to be much higher than those in any other year of the current solar cycle. The reason is time coincidence of the large lowlatitudinal coronal holes and significant burst of the flare and eruptive activity on the Sun. The long term variations of Ap and Dst indices of geomagnetic activity during 23-rd cycle are discussed and compared with preceding cycles. The peculiarities of recent activity increase and extreme magnetic storms in October-November are analyzed in more details.
