Analysis of Geomagnetic Activity during October-November, 2003, based on magnetospheric current systems models

Geomagnetic activity for each hour of Universal Time from October 1 till November 30,2003, is analyzed on the basis of the IZMEM model developed in IZMIRAN,and Paraboloid Model developed in Institute of Nuclear Physics of Moscow State University. The main attention is spared to question: how correctly are classic geomagnetic indices describe real activity? The real activity is defined as the energy contained in large-scale geomagnetic variations. Simultaneously, the temporal dynamics of corrected geomagnetic latitudes of the geomagnetic observatories which are used to obtain AE and Kp geomagnetic indices is analyzed. It is shown that corrected geomagnetic latitudes can change by 1-5 degrees in the periods of the main phase of this storms. The active periods of the magnetic storms of October-November, 2003, are compared with the same active periods of the magnetic storms occured during preceding 8 years.
